Cactus names, what do they mean?
The Etymology of Cacti Species is a great place to find out what names mean, and where the names came from (Latin, Greek, etc.). The CactiGuide makes it pretty easy to figure out that macrorhiza means something like "large root," but what about other terms such as basilaris or acanthodes; you'll find the answers there.
