01 NovOpuntia Without Borders

It is raining outside, and in a few weeks that will be sleet or snow. Still, despite the cold here in Maryland, I’m confident many of the cacti that I kept in Texas would survive. The problem is that I don’t have a garden here; I live in an apartment.

I was laid off from my job Texas at the end of May in 2008; I was lucky to find a job in Maryland and to start by the end of July. I like Maryland and like my new job. But I’m in the odd position of not having my plants near me–I had to give away my research collection of opuntias.

Of course I’m busy planning my next cactus research trips and don’t really need to be growing opuntias to enjoy them, and I have thousands of great opuntia images to examine and write about.

There are no borders for a hobby.
