Introduction
Opuntia streptacantha Lem. is a Mexican species that forms a tree. It is one of the progenitors of O. ficus-indica. Many O. ficus-indica forms resemble O. streptacantha without spines. Sometimes these forms revert to spiny and the plants seem to be O. streptacantha but perhaps with larger-than-normal fruits.
